Did the Nissan Leaf actually deserve the World Car of the Year in 2011?

Back in 2011 many people might've thought the best car was the Ford Focus or a BMW 5-Series. But no... It was the All Electric Car called the Nissan LEAF.*1.*
It won the World Car of the Year award because not only people loved it, it was actually the world's first mass produced Electric Car.
The LEAF is one of the first mass-produced Electric Cars on the market. Nissan made sure it was for everyday people. Some examples include;
- The LEAF beat luxury cars like the BMW 5-Series and Audi A8 in different award categories.
- Car reviewers had praised Nissan how they could produce a that emitted zero emissions.
- The LEAF offered smart tech. It made sure that newcomers to the Electric Car Market so easy.
I think the LEAF definitely helped pioneer the Electric revolution and deserved the World Car of the Year.
Back in 2011 LEAF was definitely ahead of its time but over time new comers car manufacturers who have entered the Electric Car Market.
Cars like the Tesla Model 3 or the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have taken over LEAF sales.
But Nissan has claimed that they will insure that they will improve their Electric Mobility by 2023. They have also released a newer model called the ARYIA which launched in 2023.*2.*
